A Toast . . . And a Toast . . . And
a Toast
From the Summer 1972 issue of UNO 3,
the quarterly journal of the OU/UNO Alumni Association
A bus breakdown on the Platte River en route
to the Lincoln Airport did nothing to dampen the spirits of 39 alumni who
signed up for the December trip to Hawaii.
The traditional winter holiday excursion was
just a little unique due to the football game between the top-rated Nebraska
University Cornhuskers and the Rainbows of the University of Hawaii. The tour
package included seven nights and eight days in the islands, meals, champagne
breakfasts and deluxe hotel accommodations as well as tickets to the contest.
Speaking of the spirits, those 39 OU/UNO
alumni helped their fellow passengers set a new American Airlines record for
cocktail consumption with over 700 drinks by the time they arrived in the 50th
state.
The unscheduled bus stop on the Platte was the
only catch to the whole tour.
