UNO Television On the Tube
From the 1966 Tomahawk Yearbook
Educational Television came to Omaha and our campus with
the October 19, 1965, debut of Channel 26, a product of the Metropolitan Omaha
Educational Broadcasting Association, and a tenant of the University.
Local ETV is now broadcasting both adult and
children's shows, both day and evening. Dr. Paul Borge doubles as Station
Manager and director of the OU radio-TV sequence."
Today, UNO Television is a unit of Academic
Affairs at UNO. Mr. John Fiene is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Technology
and Dr. Derek Hodgson is Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
UNO-TV is also the Omaha Production Center for
Nebraska Educational Telecomunications, providing local programing for the
Omaha metropolitan area on KYNE-TV channel 26, as well as producing programs
for statewide distribution on the Nebraska Educational Television Network.
The studio also provides a laboratory for UNO
broadcasting students where they get 'Hands-On' instruction with professional
broadcast equipment from professors and professionals in the industry. Students
also are eligible to join the crew of UNO Television to learn more about the
art and science of television, as well as gain valuable work experience.
We also facilitate distance education and
telecourses through our facility.
UNO Television is the managing partner of The
Knowledge Network. TKN is a non-profit corporation designed to provide
educational services via local broadcast and cable television.
