Oil!
From the June 1954 University of Omaha Alumni Newsletter
Oil! This was the magic word in the minds of
Regents June 3 as they directed University officials to seek bids on the oil
lease for a quarter-section of land owned by the University in Kimball Country,
Nebr. The land, acquired in the 1930s as the result of a mortgage given to the
University in the 1920s, has been rented out the last few years for wheat
farming.
Oil Hopes Fizzle
From the September 1954 University of Omaha Alumni Newsletter
Rogers Oil Company drilled to a depth of 6,440
feet during July and August seeking oil on the University's quarter-section of
farm land in Kimball County, Nebr. Telegraphed reports of moist earth aroused a
flurry of excitement at the University, but on Aug. 10, with tests
unsatisfactory, the drilling was abandoned.
