Taxing Times
From This Moment in
Campus History compiled by University Library Archives
On April 4, 1986, members of the UNO honorary accounting
fraternity Gamma Kappa, a local chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, announced that they
would provide tax assistance at the Crossroads Mall on Tuesday nights and
Saturday afternoons through April 15.
Students were able to provide assistance on
simple tax forms only, such as 1040A and 1040EZ. Participation in this activity
was part of a national program – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – that was
intended to provide tax aid to people who could not afford professional
preparation.
