The Thompson Center's business hours are Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during summer
months). The Alumni Center will be locked during all non-business hours, except
from 1/2-hour (weekdays) or 1 hour (weekends) prior to the scheduled start of
an event until the conclusion of the event. All deliveries and outside vendors
(florists, DJs, bakeries, etc.) should enter at the receiving door on the north
side of the building no earlier than 2 hours prior to the scheduled event
unless other arrangements have been made. All decorations and materials should
be removed immediately following the event or a storage fee may be assessed.
The UNO Alumni Association is
not responsible for damage to or loss of any merchandise, equipment or articles
left in The Thompson Center prior to, during or following an event. The UNO
Alumni Association is not responsible for any action or inaction by
representatives of the catering firms which results in injury or loss to any
participant at an event. Refer to Alcohol Policy and Other Guidelines below for
further liability disclaimers. The UNO Alumni Association is not responsible
for the cancellation or disruption of an event
due to circumstances beyond its control such as fire, electrical or mechanical
failure, water disruption or any acts of God.
All events must be booked
through Alumni Center management. No reservation is guaranteed until a contract
has been signed. Some events require a
deposit be paid in advance. Tentative reservations may be made for a period of
1 week. If the reservation is not made in writing and a deposit paid, the
tentative reservation will be cancelled and the room will be made available to
other groups. Room assignments are made according to the estimated number of
guests. Alumni Center Management reserves the right to reassign any event to a
different room for any reason. A
security fee of $20 per hour is charged for all events (including university
events) held during non-business hours. The charge applies during the scheduled
hours of the event as well as 1 hour before and a 1/2-hour after the event.
Additional rental and security fees may be charged if guests have not exited by
1/2 hour following the event. A $35 late set up fee will be charged if a room
must be rearranged after the initial set up has been done.
Room
Rental charges apply to everyone using the Alumni Center except University of
Nebraska at Omaha colleges, departments and recognized campus organizations
utilizing the facility for university functions. A reduced NU Group rate will
be charged for all UNMC, UNL and UNK groups booking university business,
training or social gatherings. UNO holiday gathering and revenue-generating
seminars, conferences and fund raisers are not considered university business and
will be assessed NU group rates.

Friday and Sunday wedding receptions
(excluding Dec) receive a 50% discount on the room rental.
All Alumni Center guests are welcome
to use the Patio. It is not officially reserved for any group. Usage is on a first come / first serve
basis and may be used by multiple groups.
The canopy covered terrace, on the
south side is reserved for participants in Centennial Hall.

Room reserved on first-come, first-served basis for either Bootstrapper or

50% discount on Friday night.

All parties reserving the Alumni
Center for a social event such as a wedding reception, anniversary party or
holiday gathering are required to pay all rental charges prior to the scheduled
event. A non-refundable deposit of fifty percent (50%) of the final room rental
is required at the time of booking. The remaining rental and security fees are
due no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled event. The group may be denied
access if these charges have not been paid. At the discretion of Alumni Center
Management, Omaha-area businesses and organizations
may pay all applicable rental, audio/visual and security fees by invoice
following the scheduled event. Tax-exempt organizations should supply a copy of
their Nebraska Sales Tax Exemption Certificate at the time of booking. The
Alumni Center accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
Only University events which are
paid by state funds are exempt from Nebraska sales tax. Events not charged
through university accounts may be subject to standard room rental charges. By
signing a confirmation form, university groups agree to assume responsibility
for all charges associated with the event. University clients are expected to
submit their SAP Cost Object Number at the time of booking.
UNO Alumni Discounts
Alumni
Cardholders (minimum $25 donation) are entitled to a 10-percent
discount on the room rental fee for personal events (i.e., wedding receptions,
anniversary parties, retirement receptions, baby showers, etc.). The discount
does not apply to business or organizational functions. To receive the
discount, the cardholder must be the event honoree or the parent/grandparent of
the event honoree. Only one Alumni Card discount can be applied per booking.
Alumni Card discounts cannot be combined with other discounts offered (i.e. Friday / Sunday 50% off). Clients must
mention that they are Alumni Cardholders at the time of reservation. Clients
who are not current cardholders may receive an Alumni Card (and its 10-percent
discount) at the time of booking by making a minimum $25 donation to the UNO
Annual Fund. The tax-deductible amount of the cardholder's donation is reduced
by the value of the discount received.

The
serving of alcohol is permitted and will
comply with the policies of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, the
laws of the State of Nebraska and Douglas County.

The
Alumni Center does not hold a liquor license. All alcohol must be provided by
Brandeis Catering.
|
|
3.
|
Cash
bars require at least 30 days notice to Brandeis Catering. A $75 fee is also required for a single
day liquor permit. (Payable to Brandeis). Hosted
bars do not require a permit.
|
|
4.
|
All
alcohol must be served using Brandeis Catering bartenders.
|
|
5.
|
A
minimum $3 per-person food purchase is required for all events serving
alcohol.
|
|
6.
|
No
person under the age of 21 will be allowed to consume alcohol at Alumni
Center events.
|
|
7.
|
At the
discretion of the UNO Alumni Association or Brandies Catering employees,
alcohol services may be discontinued for any individual or group.
|
|
8.
|
All bar and alcohol services
will be discontinued 30 minutes prior to the scheduled end of all events.
|
All food and beverage consumed
in The Thompson Center is provided by Brandeis Catering, (402) 334-5446. No
other caterers or potlucks are allowed. Brandeis staff assists in planning
receptions, meals and breaks. All billings for catering services are handled by
Brandeis. Menus and Catering Policies are available from Brandeis or the Center
Manager. Please
consult Brandeis Catering event planners prior to booking your event. There are
some minimum catering requirements.
Other Guidelines

The Alumni Center cannot be utilized for commercial
purposes such as trade shows, bridal fairs or retail sales.
|
|
2.
|
The sponsoring group or individual is responsible for
any and all damage excluding normal wear and tear.
|
|
3.
|
The Thompson Center is nicely decorated. No decorations may be pinned or taped to
any painted or wallpapered surface. Decorating ideas should be discussed with
the Manager or Brandeis Catering prior to the event.
|
|
4.
|
Glitter and confetti are not allowed as table
decorations.
|
|
5.
|
Throwing of rice or birdseed is not permitted.
|
|
6.
|
The Thompson Center is a smoke-free facility in
compliance with university regulations.
|
|
7.
|
The Alumni Center is in compliance with the Americans
with Disabilities Act.
|
|
8.
|
The host must remain on the premises during the event
and is responsible for the conduct of guests, including minors.
|
|
9.
|
A UNO Alumni Association employee will be in the Alumni
Center during regular business hours. Security personnel or the Brandeis
Catering staff should be notified of problems or last-minute requests at events
during non-business hours.
|
|
10.
|
Candles must be enclosed in glass. No open flames are
allowed inside or outside the Alumni Center in compliance with state fire
regulations. A cleaning charge of $100 will be assessed if candle wax is
dripped on carpets, tables, chairs or walls.
|
|
11.
|
Neither red wine nor red punch are permitted in the
Alumni Center due to stains.
|
|
12.
|
The customer and not The UNO Alumni Association is
responsible for damage or injury caused by florists, DJs, bands or other
vendors contracted by the customer.
|
|
13.
|
In the
event of severe weather, the Alumni Center will make every attempt to remain
open even though the University may close. Several factors, including the
availability of Alumni Center staff, Brandeis Catering and security services,
will play a role in deciding if an event can be held. Please inform the
Center Manager at (402) 554-3368 if an event will be cancelled due to weather
conditions (leave a message if necessary). Parking conditions are not
guaranteed. The Alumni Center will close during a city-wide shut down as
declared by the mayor's office.

To leave a message for someone
at the Alumni Center, call the reception desk at (402) 554-2444. Please check
for messages at the receptionist desk throughout the day. Public phones are
located in the lobby and concourse area on the first floor and in the south
entrance of the Shirley Wing. There are no vending machines or cash machines in
the Alumni Center. Free wireless Internet access (Wi Fi) is provided throughout the
facility.
Parking
It
is suggested that weekday events held during the school year begin at 8 a.m. or
earlier. The parking lot can be reserved for larger luncheons and conferences.
Ample space is available for late afternoon, evening, weekend and summer
events. Overflow parking is available in lots immediately east and south of the
Alumni Center. Visitors to The Thompson
Center who inadvertently receive parking tickets from Campus Security may sign
the ticket and return it to our receptionist or Campus Security.
The following audio/visual
equipment is available from the Alumni Center. Please consult with the Center
Manager at least three days prior to event if equipment is required. University
groups should not order equipment from Campus A/V (MTS). Outside vendors are
prohibited unless a piece of equipment is not available from the Alumni Center.
