UNO Alumni Association issues Outstanding Service Awards,

elects new board members, names executive committee

(OMAHA, NE) — The UNO Alumni Association issued its Outstanding Service Awards during the organization’s Board of Directors Annual Meeting Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Outstanding Service Awards honor faculty, staff, alumni or friends who have shown continuous, outstanding service to the association and/or university. Ninety-nine OSAs have been issued since their institution in 1974. Receiving 2007 Outstanding Service Awards were Michael Kudlacz and Harold Sage.

Michael Kudlacz

Michael Kudlacz was chairman of the association’s Board of Directors in 2006. He was the 83rd graduate to lead the organization since its start in 1913.

During Kudlacz’ tenure as chairman the Association: expanded and renovated the William H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center; raised more than $900,000 through the Alumni Center Centennial Campaign; raised $400,152 in unrestricted donations from 4,747 donors; oversaw the hiring of new President Lee Denker following the retirement of longtime President Jim Leslie; and, issued 46 UNO Alumni Legacy Scholarships to first-year students who are children of UNO graduates.

Most recently Kudlacz was instrumental in the formation of the Detachment 470 Air Force ROTC Alumni Chapter. The organization will serve UNO, its students and its alumni through scholarships, awards programs and various alumni activities. He will be the group’s inaugural president.

Kudlacz joined the association’s board of directors in 2004. A 1971 UNO graduate with a BS in criminal justice, he is federal security director of the Nebraska Transportation Security Administration. He also has received the association’s Citation for Alumnus Achievement (1996), making him one of just 11 graduates to receive the Citation and Outstanding Service Award.

Harold Sage

Harold Sage assisted Kudlacz with the formation of the Detachment 470 Air Force ROTC Alumni Chapter. Since 2006 he had been representing ROTC alumni at UNO Alumni Association board of directors meetings. He will be the group’s inaugural vice president.

“Harold is one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the University and the Alumni Association,” fellow graduate Duane Post wrote in a nomination letter for Sage. “His commitment to promote and serve both started during his undergraduate days and continues to the current time.”

Sage worked with the AFROTC Detachment in 2001 to celebrate its 50th anniversary, bringing 100 graduates back to campus. He also has developed and helped maintain lists of the university’s ROTC and Angel Flight graduates.

Sage graduated from the University of Omaha in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is retired.
