Association issues Outstanding Service Awards,
elects new board members, names executive committee
(OMAHA,
NE) The UNO Alumni Association issued its Outstanding Service Awards during
the organizations Board of Directors Annual Meeting Tuesday, Nov. 13.
Outstanding
Service Awards honor faculty, staff, alumni or friends who have shown
continuous, outstanding service to the association and/or university.
Ninety-nine OSAs have been issued since their institution in 1974. Receiving
2007 Outstanding Service Awards were Michael
Kudlacz and Harold
Sage.
Michael Kudlacz
Michael
Kudlacz was chairman of the associations Board of Directors in 2006. He was
the 83rd graduate to lead the organization since its start in 1913.
During
Kudlacz tenure as chairman the Association: expanded and renovated the William
H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center; raised more than $900,000 through the
Alumni Center Centennial Campaign; raised $400,152 in unrestricted donations
from 4,747 donors; oversaw the hiring of new President Lee Denker following the
retirement of longtime President Jim Leslie; and, issued 46 UNO Alumni Legacy
Scholarships to first-year students who are children of UNO graduates.
Most
recently Kudlacz was instrumental in the formation of the Detachment 470 Air
Force ROTC Alumni Chapter. The organization will serve UNO, its students and
its alumni through scholarships, awards programs and various alumni activities.
He will be the groups inaugural president.
Kudlacz
joined the associations board of directors in 2004. A 1971 UNO graduate with a
BS in criminal justice, he is federal security director of the Nebraska
Transportation Security Administration. He also has received the associations
Citation for Alumnus Achievement (1996), making him one of just 11 graduates to
receive the Citation and Outstanding Service Award.
Harold Sage
Harold
Sage assisted Kudlacz with the formation of the Detachment 470 Air Force ROTC
Alumni Chapter. Since 2006 he had been representing ROTC alumni at UNO Alumni
Association board of directors meetings. He will be the groups inaugural vice
president.
Harold
is one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the University and the Alumni
Association, fellow graduate Duane Post wrote in a nomination letter for Sage.
His commitment to promote and serve both started during his undergraduate days
and continues to the current time.
Sage
worked with the AFROTC Detachment in 2001 to celebrate its 50th anniversary,
bringing 100 graduates back to campus. He also has developed and helped
maintain lists of the universitys ROTC and Angel Flight graduates.
Sage
graduated from the University of Omaha in 1954 with a bachelors degree in
business administration. He is retired.
