Volleyball, Wrestling Standouts
Enter Hall
(OMAHA, NE) —Brenda Baumann Pulling, a former volleyball
all-American, and Greg Wilcox, a national wrestling champion, were inducted
into the UNO Athletic Hall of Fame at the 25th annual banquet Nov. 8.
Also at the banquet:
• All-Americans Chris Bober and
Darcy Stracke were honored as UNO’s male and female athletes of the year,
respectively;
• Van Deeb received the Maverick
Club’s Man of the Year Award for his continued support of the program;
• Carol Schrader was given the
Women’s’ Executive Board’s Distinguished Person of the Year Award for her
support, particularly with the Diet Pepsi Women’s Walk; and
• First Data Corporation was
given the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award.
Pulling
Pulling competed for the Mavericks from 1987-90 and earned
second-team AVAC All-America honors in 1989 and was a 1988 selection to the National
Strength and Conditioning All-America team.
Her other honors including being named to the all-North Central
Conference team three times and once to the NCC’s all-academic team.
She was UNO’s female athlete of the year in 1989 and was
the NCC’s honor athlete in 1990-91.
Pulling is among the career leaders for the Mavericks in kills, attacks
and hitting percentage. She helped lead
the Mavs to a conference and regional title and to a third-place national
finish.
Wilcox
Wilcox compiled a 73-19 record during his two-year career
in 1980-83. He set a single-season
record for the Mavericks with 42 wins at 190 pounds and finished fifth in the
NCAA II tournament in 1981 then redshirted the following season with an injury. He came back the 1982-83 season and
registered 31 wins and won the 190-pound national championship.
Bober was a two-time first-team football all-American for
the Mavericks in 1998 and 1999 as an offensive lineman before signing with the
New York Giants.
Stracke, who transferred from Nebraska-Kearney to UNO for
her senior season, earned all-American honors after setting a Maverick record
for single-season scoring average at 22.6 per game.
Deeb is the owner of Deeb & Associates, a real estate
firm, and has been in the real estate business for over 18 years. Schrader is a veteran newscaster of over 20
years with KETV Channel 7 and KFAB.
