Three Former Standouts Enter Hall
(OMAHA, NE) —Three former
standouts were inducted into the UNO Athletic Hall of Fame during a banquet
Nov. 10 at the Holiday Inn Convention Centre.
Earning induction as the 1999 class were Sandy
Skradski, Janice Moreau Howell and Joe Wypiszenski. Coordinated by the UNO
Alumni Association, the awards promote recognition of the outstanding
achievement of athletes, coaches or administrators.
Skradski, who played from 1989-93, finished
her career with 1,582 points and 925 rebounds. She was a two-time all-North
Central Conference selection and earned Kodak All-American honors as a senior.
She finished her career No. 3 in scoring in the North Central conference and
was the league’s all-time leading rebounder. She currently ranks third in NCC
career rebounding.
Moreau still holds the school record for the
800 meters, both indoors and outdoors, and was a member of the 4x400 relay
teams which also hold indoor and outdoor records. She won all-American honors
in 1984 (4x400 relay), in 1985 (800 meters) and in 1986 (800 meters).
Wypiszenski earned all-American honors as a
freshman at Northern Michigan, then transferred to UNO when that school dropped
the sport. He earned three more all-American plaques, finishing runner-up twice
and third once while competing for the Mavericks from 1989-91. He also earned
NCAA Division I All-American honors in 1990, becoming the last UNO wrestler to
compete in that tournament. His overall mark at UNO was 105-27-5.
